Christmas Day Lunch at Fordoun

In November last year, we decided as a family that it would be a fabulous idea to ditch the recipe books, hours of slaving away in the kitchen and the endless holiday cleaning up by going out for Christmas lunch.

After many years of hosting wonderful Christmas lunches we felt it was high time to take a break and do something a little different. Being 7 months pregnant at the time, and the heat of the season fast approaching, made the restful idea all the more enticing. After doing some research of which restaurants were hosting Christmas Day lunch on the Midlands, we decided to book with Fordoun Hotel. We have always enjoyed our meals out at Fordoun, their Christmas menu looked delicious and their prices were reasonable as well.

Fordoun hosted their Christmas Day Lunch in the Farm Village section of the Estate. The lunch venue was beautifully decorated with Christmas goodies, lots of sparkling chandeliers and each table tastefully decorated. The venue was fully booked and bustling with families and friends celebrating the festive day.

The buffet tables took up a large area in the middle of the hall, teeming with a huge selection of festive dishes with incredible aromas filling the air, we were all excited to tuck right in. The starters included a Thai chicken and corn soup, broccoli soup and a range of lovely salads. The mains included a great variety of vegetables, a delicious carvery and a Moroccan lamb tagine. The roast beef and gammon were cooked to perfection, juicy and tasty, and the lamb tagine kept us coming back for more. They also had a great selection of mini desserts, Christmas pudding and a lovely local cheese platter. There definitely was not a lack of food and choices, no one was going home hungry.

So give it a try this year, ditch the dishes and the endless basting and treat you and your family to a Christmas day out.

The venue had a great patio with beautiful country views. The kiddies kept themselves entertained outside, playing soccer and colouring in, while the adults kept going back for more delectable buffet dishes, the men forever trying to outdo each other with their gluttonous buffet strategies.

All in all our Christmas day lunch was a wonderful, relaxing experience. The food was the great, the atmosphere was festive and the views and scenery at Fordoun were beautiful. I would definitely recommend a Christmas Day lunch at Fordoun Hotel. So give it a try this year, ditch the dishes and the endless basting and treat you and your family to a Christmas day out. Remember to buy a cooked gammon and some snacks to enjoy after Christmas so you don’t miss out on those Christmas day left overs.
