31 Aug The Farmer’s Daughter – creative fresh decadence
The Farmer’s Daughter is a stunning restaurant situated at the stylish venue, Yard 41, in the the little town of Howick. They have created quite the following with their creative menu, gushing with unique combinations, decadent cakes and freshly brewed coffees that will excite any food lover.
Focusing on local, farm fresh ingredients, their menu gets the taste buds watering as soon as your eyes glaze over it. The breakfast options are very interesting and includes things like the Daughter’s Benedict which comes with a sweetcorn and zucchini fritter layered with gypsy ham/salmon, poached eggs, hollandaise and rocket or a smors toastie for cheat day rebellion which is a toasted marshmallow, nutella and banana toastie. The lunch/dinner menu delights with it’s delicious combinations like the moroccan-spiced lamb burger with beetroot chutney and tzatziki, tempura prawn salad with watermelon and grapefruit dressing or the big boep pork belly served with farm fresh veg.
Banting and gluten free options are readily available which is wonderful for those of us with this unfortunate diet. Their menu is relatively small but doesn’t disappoint with their use of quality ingredients. At first bite you are swept off to food nirvana leaving you dreaming of your next visit to try one of their other meals.
The Farmer’s Daughter serve superb coffee in charming gold-rimmed tea cups. The coffee is creamy and strong and compliments any of their delicious meals. Their cake selection is totally over the top which we absolutely love. They take it to the next level entirely with cakes options like the decadent chocolate brownie, a carrot cake with an epic caramelized nut topping, blueberry/raspberry topped cheesecake in a jar or the crispy and gooey lemon meringue in a jar. Cakes are made fresh daily so there will be a different selection whenever you visit them. Even their milkshakes show their creative flair with combinations like milk tart and turkish delight.
The Farmer’s Daughter is in a beautiful setting with stunning views over the Umgeni Valley. Sit upstairs to take in the full scope of it all. Their decor and vibe is country shabby chic with mismatched colours, patterns and textures which work so wonderfully together. Handwritten chalk phrases and antique silver litter the rustic walls. Overall a quirky, fun, and welcoming atmosphere has been created throughout.
Yard 41 also has a beautiful interior decor shop called Ruby Orchard and the Blackwood Nursery. So after an indulgent meal you can get your retail therapy on and buy some plants, pots, furniture and home decor to compliment your home.
The Farmer’s Daughter cater for private functions and weddings and their harvest table spreads are a sight to behold, totally delicious indeed. So do keep them in mind when planning your next event.
For a restaurant and afternoon cake spot that has creative flair, a wonderful view and a menu that promises to delight your taste buds then stop off at the Farmer’s Daughter. A special spot which will stick in your mind and keep you coming back for more.
