The Wine Cellar is situated on the R103 near Rosetta and has become an essential stop on the Midlands Meander for many visitors to the beautiful area. They have been running for 21 years and are still making everyone who enter their doors feel welcome with their unmatched warmth and friendliness.Their store is unique and charming, and as soon as you walk into the lower part of the store you enter into the cellar. This is where you feel you have been transported into someone’s private wine collection with dusty (and not so dusty) bottles and wine racks around you and the crackling fire makes you want to settle in for the afternoon.
The Wine Cellar is a family run business and the owners are extremely knowledgeable on all things viticulture. They are incredibly helpful and can give you great advice on what wine to choose according to your personal preferences and budget. If you fancy yourself as a wine connoisseur and are looking for something unique and special then this is the spot for you. The owners can give you substantial descriptions of each wine in their store from Bordeaux blends, Chardonnays, Champagnes, Pinotages, Pinot Noirs, Cabernet Sauvignons and the list could go on and on and on….
The Wine Cellar don’t only specialize in wine but have something for every palate. From craft gin distillery to a large selection of brandies, whiskeys, liquers, craft beers and more. They also stock of range of delicious treats to compliment your beverages including cheeses, hams, pickles, chutneys, olives, nougat and loads more.
The Wine Cellar cater for private wine tastings and special events/functions. The owners are very flexible and can tailor your event according to your very own taste and style. If you would like to settle in for the day then they have cheese platters, boerie rolls, burgers and the like available at the Mouse Trap on site. It is quite a simple setup but they have a stunning open fire in the center of the venue so between the log fire and the selection of beverages you are sure to survive a chilly Meander’s day. At the Mouse Trap they also have a second hand library where you can buy cheap books to support the local SPCA.
Pandora’s Emporium is a little antique/clothing store also open on the property. The owner, Claire, named her store after her much loved Labrador Pandora. Claire is full of life and will show you around her store of eclectic collectables from scarves, vintage clothing, books, antiques and more.
The Wine Cellar has tons to offer and is a must-stop on the Meander. You can stock up your wine cellar, fridge and picnic basket and also buy something special for your friends and family. After chatting to the wine pundits at the venue you too can impress your friends with all your newfound wine knowledge.
